TrueBracket

About TrueBracket

TrueBracket is a portfolio of free, math-first financial calculators built for Canadians. The tools are designed to replace the vague “it depends” answers you get from bank comparison pages with specific, personalized recommendations backed by real tax math. Every tool shows its work — you can expand the calculation and see exactly how the answer was derived.

The Canadian financial tools landscape is dominated by calculators built by the institutions that sell you the products. Bank-owned RRSP calculators don’t tell you when a TFSA is the better choice. White-labeled widgets from generic fintech vendors use placeholder math that ignores provincial tax brackets and surtaxes. TrueBracket exists because Canadians deserve tools that show real numbers and pick sides when the math warrants it.

TrueBracket is built and maintained by Kyle Thorne, based in Ontario. There is no team, no VC funding, and no advisory board. The tools are free to use. The site is monetized through affiliate partnerships with Canadian investment platforms — when a tool recommends opening an RRSP or TFSA, you’ll see links to platforms like Wealthsimple and Questrade. These partnerships are disclosed on every tool page. There is no sponsored content and no paid placement in any recommendation.

The calculators use 2026 federal and provincial tax bracket data and are updated annually when new rates are published. Known limitations (such as the exclusion of CPP/EI premiums and personal credits) are documented on each tool page. If you find an error or have a suggestion, reach out at [email protected].
